About The Book
DOUBLE DOWN is a fun-to-read and hard-to-put-down remixed rule book full of tools and tactics, stories and strategies, for aspiring Boss Ladies—whether you're starting your career, wondering why you're not further along, or looking to change things up. DOUBLE DOWN will change your life.
Before Antoinette became the VP of branded entertainment at CBS and Tricia founded and ran her creative agency Narrative_, they were identical twin sisters growing up in 1980s Brooklyn in a family of strong-willed Jamaican women. How’d they rise to the top of the media world? First, they doubled down on themselves and the other, pushing themselves to always be rewarded for who they were not held back by what they weren't. As African-American women, they learned a thing or two about owning their confidence and going high when others go low. As identical twins, they learned the power of true connection, as well as the need to individuate. And as all-in hustlers, they learned that to succeed in a world where the deck is stacked against you, you need to ditch the old Status Quo rules. You’ve got to bet on yourself, and you’ve got to cultivate a tribe of people who will bet on you.
In DOUBLE DOWN, the Twins lay down the eight principles they used on their paths to Emmy Awards and corner offices. From "Don't Emulate, Originate" to "Don't Hedge, Take the Risk," the Twins reject the Status Quo's conformity and conservatism, instead showing you how to identify your unique superpowers, locate your White Space (where superpowers meet opportunity), and play the Long Game by planning well, aiming high, and going far. That’s only half the equation, though. To truly succeed, you’ll need a little help from your friends—and you’ll give it, too. In "Don't Network, Connect" and "Don't Inherit Your Tribe, Build It," you’ll learn the power of true connection, so you can deliberately cultivate a tribe of people who will cheer you on as you achieve your boldest, most ambitious goals (and set new ones).
Interwoven with these lessons, Antoinette and Tricia recount their unique paths to success on their terms, first flipping Guess sweatshirts while in Catholic School, then offsetting student loans by hosting dance parties at Skidmore College, and finally using their Twinity by modeling together to make rent for their first shared apartment in New York City. They'll also tell you stories from other Boss Ladies like Anne Wojcicki, the founder of 23andMe; Loren Ridinger, the founder of Market America and Shop.com; Carly Cushnie, the founder of Cushnie; Grace Mahary, model and philanthropist; Ayesha Curry, entrepreneur and TV personality; Lacy Phillips, Manifestation Adviser and founder of To Be Magnetic; and Ali Kriegsman and Alana Branston, founders of Bulletin.
